Hess Corporation Scholarship Application

In the heart of North Dakota, agriculture and the oil and gas industry form the backbone of our economy and community. Hess Corporation, committed to innovation and stewardship in the global energy sector, proudly partners with the North Dakota State Fair Foundation to offer scholarships that empower the next generation of high school seniors. This opportunity is not just financial support; it’s an invitation to shape the future of our state by merging the rich heritage of agriculture with the dynamic energy industry.

Hess, through the North Dakota State Fair, in conjuction with the Minot Area Community Foundation, offers scholarships for North Dakota high school seniors engaged in 4-H or FFA. Three scholarships of $10,000 each and five scholarships of $2,000 will be awarded to support students pursuing higher education or vocational training. While we’re looking to support careers in the oil and gas industry, we equally value roles that contribute broadly to community well-being. This includes, but is not limited to, fields like agriculture sciences, engineering, accounting, healthcare, education, and more. The goal is to empower students whose studies and career ambitions aim to enhance the quality of life in their communities, whether through direct industry involvement or by enriching the social, educational, and environmental fabric of North Dakota. We encourage applicants with a wide range of interests and goals to apply, showcasing how your education and career path will contribute to a vibrant, sustainable community.

Hess Corporation has set forth the following guidelines for the selection committee.

    • Applicants will be selected based on their submitted materials, showcasing their achievements and aspirations. Eight finalists will undergo an interview with our diverse selection committee, consisting of professionals from various fields. Our goal is to support students who demonstrate a strong commitment to their education and community.
    • The three $10,000 scholarships are intended to be distributed in three areas:
    • Four-year oil and gas related industry (engineering, geology, etc.)
    • Four-year oil and gas community support (first responders, teachers, etc.)
    • Trade school (electrician, plumbers, etc.)
    • The $2,000 scholarships should be awarded to the remaining five finalists.

With the guidelines above, the committee is entrusted to make the best decisions based on the applications and the interview process.

The committee should do their best to include several people with different backgrounds.

Some suggestions include:

    • 4-H and/or FFA adult leader(s)
    • ND State Fair Foundation or ND State Fair board member(s) or employee(s)
    • Oil and gas industry professional(s)
    • Community leader(s)
    • Teacher(s)
    • If an applicant or finalist is seen as a conflict of interest for the committee member, it is recommended that they recuse themselves from that applicant’s evaluation or remove themselves from the committee.

Thanks to a generous $40,000 donation from Hess Corporation, we’re committed to making a tangible difference in students’ lives. Whether you’re aiming for a university degree or trade certification, we invite you to apply and share your vision for a brighter future in the oil and gas industry or serving your community.

The Scholarship Verification Form is available in either a fillable PDF or standard PDF.  Please have your FFA Advisor, 4-H Leader or County Extension Agent complete the form and upload to your application.
