MINOT, N.D. – Before the excitement of the Ranch Rodeo got underway, some of the Fair’s youngest and bravest competitors took center stage for the annual Mutton Bustin’ competition at the North Dakota State Fair.
With helmets on, hands gripping tight, and plenty of determination, young riders gave it their all as they held on to racing sheep in front of a cheering crowd. While some competitors rode like seasoned pros, others discovered just how tough it can be to stay aboard. Whether they crossed the finish with a huge smile or shed a few tears after their ride, every participant showed courage and made memories that will last a lifetime.
The North Dakota State Fair extends a sincere thank you to Scott Bredahl and his dedicated team for once again organizing the event, providing the sheep, and helping create a safe and fun experience for all of the young competitors.
Congratulations to all of the participants for their bravery and sportsmanship. Every child who stepped into the arena was a winner in the eyes of the crowd.
Night one’s Mutton Bustin’ Champion was Westin Nickel, who held on for an impressive 9.18 seconds to earn the top ride.
Night two’s Champion was Stetson Kippen, with a winning ride of 2.56 seconds.
Events like Mutton Bustin’ continue to be a fan favorite each year, showcasing the next generation of rodeo enthusiasts while creating unforgettable family memories at the Fair.
