MINOT, N.D. – One of the most anticipated family events of Ranch Rodeo week once again brought plenty of excitement to the Rough Rider Arena as young competitors raced into the arena for the annual Calf Scramble during the 2026 North Dakota State Fair.
The crowd-favorite event may only last a few moments, but it creates memories that last a lifetime. Whether participants entered the arena with big smiles or a few nervous butterflies, every child gave it their all while showing outstanding determination, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm.
The North Dakota State Fair extends a sincere thank you to Ryan Wolla for once again providing the calves that make this beloved tradition possible. We also thank Neil and Rhonda Schell’s dedicated helpers for preparing the calves by carefully tying ribbons before each night’s competition.

While the scramble was over in the blink of an eye, the excitement inside the arena and the cheers from the crowd made it one of the highlights of Ranch Rodeo. Competitors encouraged one another, celebrated each other’s successes, and demonstrated incredible sportsmanship from start to finish.
